Lava Study Solidified. Driven by an enthusiasm to capture transient earth patterns, I started the Lava study solidified series. Patterns in nature are affected by time, weather, humans, water, and the reaction-diffusion effect: chemical interactions of pigment-forming molecules in organisms which create spots, stripes, and other visible patterns. Lava study solidified series references my black and white collages, highlighting the polarity of positive and negative. Morphing and melding into itself, with overlapping monochromatic geometric shapes and intersecting forms, a visual architecture is detailed. This series of liminal shifting between states, is a documentation of the landscape of James Island, Galapagos which consists of two coalesced volcanoes. Hardened in accordion-style formations, small glass-like bubbles of lava that date back to 750,000 years ago.
